Class #1: Ethics in 1:1 Mediumship

Thursday, April 23rd 6:30PM – 8:30PM Mountain Time

People seek out 1:1 mediumship for a variety of reasons. As Modern Mediums, we have a responsibility to act with integrity, setting us apart from fraudulent and exploitative mediums who give the work a bad name. In Class #1, we will outline the ethical challenges anyone providing 1:1 mediumship will face, including the questions of who, when, why, and how. We will also cover spiritual and mundane lines that should be held at all times.

Class #2: The Mechanics of 1:1 Mediumship

Thursday, April 30th 6:30PM – 8:30PM Mountain Time

In this class, we get into the setup of 1:1 mediumship for both in-person and virtual sessions. We’ll talk about the personal work mediums can take before and after sessions, opening and closing the space with our clients, considerations for when multiple people are present, and how the types of spirits we channel can change what is needed.

Class #3: Allowing the Flow - Perception Over Ego

Thursday, May 7th 6:30PM – 8:30PM Mountain Time

One of the hardest parts of 1:1 mediumship is quieting the ego. Spirit messages come through our psychic senses and we don’t necessarily get to choose what that will be like. A medium’s greatest fears tends to be getting it wrong or looking foolish. When we receive a perception that we don’t understand, like an out of place mental image, sound, taste, or smell, our ego will want to step in to create a tidy narrative. However, we can get it wrong and cheat our clients out of the very thing they are often looking for – hidden messages that only they can understand. Upholding our ethics involves being honest about what we do and don’t perceive, with as little editing as possible. We’ll have the opportunity to practice in class.

Practice Week – May 11th  – May 16th

Virtual and In-Person Practice Sessions with Sterling ~ Dates and times will be scheduled after the first week of class

Class #3: Long-Term Spiritual Health

Thursday, May 21st 6:30PM – 8:30PM Mountain Time

Working with the community in this capacity requires more rigorous habits when it comes to maintaining our spiritual health. We will discuss strategies for maintaining our spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical health as we do this work. This includes maintaining boundaries with the living and the non-living.  We will also spend time debriefing our practice sessions, answering questions, and problem-solving.

*Please note – if the practice sessions highlight additional topics that need to be addressed, the subsequent class topics may adjust accordingly.

Class #4: The Mid-Session Pivot

Thursday, May 28th 6:30PM – 8:30PM Mountain Time

Every 1:1 Mediumship session is different. This class will focus on strategies for handling the unexpected with grace and honesty. This can include spirits that don’t want to talk to you, those who want to mess with you, unexpected revelations, losing the connection mid-session, and more.

Class #5:  Grief, Anger, and Disappointment in 1:1 Mediumship

Thursday, June 4th 6:30PM – 8:30PM Mountain Time

Spirits and the living don’t immediately find peace and enlightenment after the separation of death. People who seek out mediumship often have unanswered questions, unresolved conflict, and deep, conflicting feelings. We’ll focus on what is and isn’t our role when we it comes to the grief, anger, and disappointment our clients may experience in sessions. We’ll also talk about how to handle those tough emotions when they are coming from the spirits themselves...and how to take care of our own big feelings that can come up after tough sessions.

Practice Week – June 8th – June 16th

Virtual and In-Person Practice Sessions with Sterling ~ Dates and times will be scheduled after the first week of class

No Class on June 18th

Class #6: When Your Client Comes with (Spirit) Attachments

Thursday, June 25th 6:30PM – 8:30PM Mountain Time

Clients may seek you out because they are concerned that they may have a spiritual attachment, think they are cursed, or are struggling because they live or are frequently in a haunted space. These are not situations to be taken lightly and it’s important to acknowledge the limits of what you are able to assist people with. However, there is a baseline of knowledge and suggestions Modern Mediums offering 1:1 mediumship sessions should have in the bag. We’ll cover what those are and what you can do when additional support is required.

Class #7: How to Host a Seance

Thursday, July 2nd 6:30PM – 8:30PM Mountain Time

We’re going to end by going beyond 1:1 sessions and cover how to hold space for the most classic of mediumship offerings – the seance! Seances can be serious, fun, and everything in between. We’ll talk about how to uphold all the integrity we practice as Modern Mediums while also holding space for a more party-like atmosphere. We will also save time for reflections, final questions, and sharing where we plan to go from here.
